The Pantone Color Institute has chosen a “color of the year” for over two decades. What apparently started as an afterthought casually offered in the last weeks of the year has transformed into a 20-person team that, devotes 9 months to analyze global social, political and economic goings-on and mushes those factors into a color that, again apparently, perfectly represents our zeitgeist. 2022’s color was Very Peri-as in periwinkle, I guess? The 20-person team rejected my suggestion of Eggshell and instead went with Viva Magenta for 2023; which Pantone identifies as powerful, empowering, electrifying, boundary less, audacious and inclusive.
