So what’s really happening in real estate these days?

The MBS Highway Housing Survey collects the impressions of hundreds of real estate and mortgage professionals throughout the country. These impressions reflect the state of the market through two measures; Buyer Activity and Pricing Pressure.

Buyer Activity

This measures consumer interactions experienced by real estate agents and mortgage brokers.  The measure ranges from Very Active to Very Slow and is a good indicator of how many people are actively looking for new homes and applying for mortgage loans.

Pricing Pressure

This is a measure of perception if prices are increasing, decreasing or staying the same; and if increasing or decreasing, how rapidly.

Conclusions

The results for January 2023 are presented here and split into the seven regions typically used to measure real estate statistics.  It’s interesting to note that increasing prices are more prevalent in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.  For our Southeast region price appreciation is still a factor and we report the highest impression of increased buyer/borrower activity.
