Is Beautiful Bougainvillea for You?

I found the article below with some great tips on caring for this colorful showstopper.  Since this article isn’t region-specific I want to add a couple of SoFlo tips from personal, prickly experience.

Bougainvillea is a dramatic and persistent bloomer and a great addition to South Florida landscapes and patios with some cautions.

1. BE PREPARED FOR FREQUENT PRUNING!  Plan to be attentive to this plant every-other-week or so (EVEN/ESPECIALLY IN THE SUMMER); if you’re a plant-and-forget kind of gardener, it is best to enjoy bougainviellas in other peoples’ yards.
2. The blooms are prolific and light as a feather so you may want to consider carefully before locating near a pool or other areas you want to keep clean.
